ARLINGTON, Texas -
Former UT Arlington relief pitcher Gene Watson has played a large role in the resurgence of the Kansas City Royals.

Watson and the Royals hold a 2-0 lead in the World Series over the New York Mets, heading into Game 3 at Citi Field on Friday night, marking the fourth time that Watson has been a part of an organization reaching the World Series in his career.

Watson, a relief pitcher for the Mavericks from 1989-1991, joined the Royals as a Major League scout, before being promoted to Coordinator of Pro Scouting in 2008 and to his current position as Director of Professional Scouting in 2015.

The Temple native came to the Royals after spending time in the Florida Marlins' organization as a professional scout, covering the A.L. and N.L. Central Divisions, as well as the Double-A Texas League for four years, including the Marlins' 2003 World Series season.
