ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington power forward Kevin Hervey has been named Madness Sun Belt Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his exceptional performance during the past week's action.
Hervey has excelled during the Mavericks' four-game winning streak going into Tuesday night's game at Texas. The sophomore from Arlington Bowie has averaged 21.0 points and 11.5 rebounds over the last four games, notching three double-doubles during that span.
"The game just comes so easy for him," UT Arlington coach Scott Cross said. "He's so good, not just shooting the ball. Our offense goes through him. We have making passes and making plays for other guys."
Hervey scored a career-high 27 points and tied a career high with 15 rebounds in UTA's 92-74 win at Rice on Sunday. He is averaging 17.7 points and 9.2 rebounds this season, leading the team in both categories.
Hervey is the second UTA student-athlete to claim CSM Sun Belt Player of the Week, joining last week's winner Erick Neal. Hervey also took the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week last week.
The Mavericks (5-1) and Longhorns (2-3) are set to tip at 7 p.m. from the Erwin Center. The Longhorn Network is televising the game. The Dallas-Fort Worth radio broadcast on flagship station KKGM 1630 begins at 6:45 p.m.
