ARLINGTON, Texas - Coming off of a thrilling walk-off victory over Texas at Globe Life Park on Tuesday night, UT Arlington struggled to get things going against Dallas Baptist on Wednesday as the Mavericks fell to the Patriots 9-3 at Clay Gould Ballpark.
"That's one of the best clubs we've played all year and having to play them back-to-back didn't help pitching depth-wise," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "Again no excuse. We didn't play real well and give them credit. They're really good and we just have to do a better job of playing on back-to-back nights."
UTA (10-8, 4-2 SBC) hit .220 in the box while DBU (15-2, 0-0 MVC) hit an impressive .342. The Patriots also notched five extra base hits compared to two for the Mavs.
Will Olson and RJ Williams paced the Mavericks offensively as the freshman duo went a combined 4-for-6. Olson brought in one run and scored one, while Williams also came across the plate once.
Jackson Morris also got in on the action as he reached base three times in the game. The designated hitter went 1-for-2 at the plate and was walked twice while also scoring one run.
The Mavericks three runs came on eight hits. The Patriots scored nine runs via eight hits. Each team committed three errors.
UT Arlington ran through seven pitchers on the night, including starter Justin Schnedler who allowed one hit and two earned runs in his three innings. The right hander struck out three batters in his first start of the season.
"The more we mature the better we'll get at playing back-to-back and we're going to play good people," Thomas added. "We've got a Tuesday and Wednesday game next week after traveling back from California so we'll see what we're made of."
The Mavericks return to the field this weekend with a three-game road trip in California. The Mavericks will play a pair of games against UC Santa Barbara on Friday and Saturday, with the final game of the trip coming on Sunday against Dartmouth.
