
MT: Muniesa named Sun Belt Player of the Week

ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington men's tennis sophomore Mario Muniesa was named Sun Belt Player of the Week on Wednesday after going 2-0 this past weekend.
UTA defeated No. 41-ranked Penn by a 4-2 margin last week to jump into the Top 75. The Mavericks took the doubles point and received a match-clinching singles win from Muniesa.
Muniesa, a native of Segovai, Spain, went 2-0 against Penn and New Mexico State last week. Muniesa defeated his opponent from Penn 7-6, 6-2 and went on to beat NMSU in a quick 6-3, 6-3 match. Muniesa played both his doubles matches in the No. 1 slot as well, but fell in both.
Muniesa is the first player for the men's team to be named Player of the Week in the 2014-15 season. He joins POW winnersElizabeth Thoms, Angeles de los Rios and Astrid Gehre from the women's team.
The Mavericks were nationally-ranked Tuesday, moving to No. 63 according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. UT Arlington was one of three Sun Belt teams to receive national rankings this past week.
