ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington tennis coach Diego Benitez announced the 2015 fall men's and women's tennis schedule on Tuesday.
The Mavericks open up with first serve taking place in Corpus Christi at the Marco & Co. Catering Islanders Invitational on Sept. 11. The women will take part in three tournaments during the month of September, while the men will compete in two.
"We are basically trying to see what kind of shape we are in and see the weaknesses that we will have to address in practice," Benitez said. "The fall is about improving our singles and doubles rankings and see what kind of options we have with our doubles teams."
For the women, UTA will compete in the Midland Fall Invitational on Sept. 18-20 and close out the month at the Rice Invitational on Sept. 25-27. The Mavs open up October at the SMU Invitational on Oct. 9-11 before taking part in the ITA Texas Regional Championships hosted by Texas A&M. The fall wraps up at the UNT Invitational on Nov. 6-8 against teams from around the Metroplex.
The men share a similar schedule to open up the campaign, beginning in Corpus Christi and traveling to Midland, but will feature a competition in Tulsa, Okla. at the Saint Francis ITA All-American. On Oc. 24-27 the men wrap up the schedule at the ITA Texas Regionals hosted by Rice.
The fall tournaments feature a bracket-style competition with UTA's individual and doubles teams competing in various flights.
UTA is hoping to build on a successful 2014-15 campaign that saw the program reach new heights. The men's squad finished ranked No. 71 in the Oracle/ITAL Division I Men's National Collegiate Team Rankings, while the women featured a doubles duo of Angeles de los Rios and Elizabeth Thoms that reached the NCAA Division I Doubles Championship.
The Mavericks' spring schedule will be released at a later date.
