ARLINGTON, Texas - Sophomore Michael Guerrero has been selected as the Sun Belt Conference Men's Student-Athlete of the Week according to voting by the league's head coaches, the SBC office announced Wednesday.
Guerrero led UT Arlington at the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday, finishing 17th among 154 runners. The sophomore posted an impressive 8k time of 24:12.9, a personal-best by 47 seconds.
A native of La Joya, Texas, Guerrero helped the Mavericks finish eighth among 16 teams. Including No. 8 UTA, nine of the top 10 teams in the South Central Regional rankings participated in the meet.
It was the second time in three meets that Guerrero paced the squad. This is the first weekly honor for Guerrero, who earned second-team All-SBC accolades as a freshman last year.
The Mavericks return to action Friday at 6 p.m. at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.
