SAN ANTONIO, Texas - In its last weekend before the ITA Texas Regionals, UT Arlington men's tennis had a successful tune-up at the UTSA Cup.
Mauricio Del Rio highlighted one of many positives for the Mavericks as he completed singles play 4-0 and winner of Flight 2. Competing against teams that included UTSA, Laredo, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Lamar in a round-robin tournament, the Mavericks went 17-5 in singles and doubles overall.
"The team played very good overall," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "We had some really good results out there and played some really competitive matches in preparation for regionals this week, just as we needed."
UTA went perfect in singles action in both Friday and Sunday matches, dropping only two during Saturday action. Mario Muniesa joined Del Rio with a perfect weekend of his own, missing out a flight win in a tiebreaker.
The Mavs completed their fall schedule at the ITA Texas Regional hosted by TCU beginning on Oct. 21.
