ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington softball continued to find positives as it knocked 20 hits during a fall exhibition against Hill College Tuesday at Allan Saxe Field.
The second game of the fall campaign proved to learning experience as UTA coach Kristie Fox emphasized the importance of staying consistent throughout an entire game.
"The girls came out really strong and then kind of played on coast," Fox said. "It's a great lesson for us to learn that it's not something we can do no matter who we are playing against."
UTA's offense was led by Whitney Walton, Bri Burchianti and Cy'Andria Newton, with each recording three hits. Walton went 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI, while Newton was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Burchianti had a strong day herself, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run.
After playing every game at shortstop last season, Laura Curry had a change of scenery in the field for the second game in a row as she started in center. Curry adjusted nicely and was perfect in the field. She was 2-for-4 at the dish offensively.
So far we have come out really strong we have all been working really hard at practice. These last couple of days we have focused a little bit.
"In the outfield it is best for the team right now," Curry said. "We have a great shortstop that is great as a freshman. I am back in the outfield and I love it. I am just having fun out there and I love running to the balls out there, I'm just loving it so far."
Mariah Denson got the start in the circle, giving up to hits while striking out 3 in the three innings of work. Sam Clakley and Sam Montes combined to go five hitless innings to close out the games.
