ERIE, Colo. - Senior Josh Radcliff rebounded from a tough second round to card a team-low 1-under par 71 to lead the UT Arlington men's golf team to a tie for ninth place on the final day of competition at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational at Colorado National Golf Club.

Sophomore Tanner Gore led the Mavericks in the 54-hole event with a 3-round total of even par 216 after turning in rounds of 69-72-75 to finish in a tie for 30th place in the 107 golfer field. Radcliff finished just one stroke back with scores of 69-77-71 for a 1-over par 217 to tie for 36th overall.

As a team, UTA finished in a tie with Utah Valley and Utah State for ninth place in the 19 team tournament at 5-over par. The Mavericks got off to a hot start in yesterday's first round, finishing with the third lowest score at 6-under par 282, before finishing the tournament with rounds of 293-294 to finish at 869.

"I thought we had, overall, a good start to the season although we are disappointed with our finish," said UTA head coach Stuart Deane. "We saw some good things that we can build from and we had some nice under-par scores. Everyone contributed toward the team score, which is a good sign. We just need to put a little polish on some things and continue to improve."

Host Colorado claimed a one stroke victory over runner-up Wyoming at 20-under par 844. The University of Utah finished third at 11-under. Six of the teams in the event registered final scores under par on the 7,745 yard, par 72 course.

Northern Colorado freshman Coby Welsh earned medalist honors with impressive scores of 70-69-66 to finish at 11-under par, just one stroke ahead of runner-up Ryan Wallen of Wyoming.

Radcliff, a Coppell, Texas native, got off to a sensational start with four birdies to make the turn at No. 18 at 3-under par. He fell to even par with a bogey on the par 4 No. 6 before finishing his round on a strong note with a birdie on his final hole - the 576-yard, par 5 No. 7.

Juniors Aaron Guanlao and Will Dennis were among 10 golfers tied for 50th place at 4-over par 200. Guanlao posted scores of 71-75-74, while Dennis finished with rounds of 73-71-76. Senior Zach Galliford turned in scores of 74-75-74 to finish in a tie for 71st place at 7-over par.

The Mavericks return to action on Monday, Oct. 10 in the second of four fall tournaments when they compete at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Texas.
