BOONE, N.C. (AP) -- Kevin Hervey scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead UTA past Appalachian State for an 83-67 win Saturday at the Holmes Center.

Kaelon Wilson added 15 points, while Jalen Jones and Drew Charles finished with 11 each for UTA (16-5, 6-2 Sun Belt Conference). Jorge Bilbao added 8 points and 11 rebounds as UTA won the battle of the boards by a 43-35 margin.

The Mavericks return to action Monday night with a 6 p.m. (CST) game at Coastal Carolina.

Hervey went 8 of 15 from the field and registered his seventh double-double of the season and the 15th of his career. He scored 17 points in a key second half that saw the Mavericks erase an eight point halftime deficit. UTA trailed by as many as 15 points during a first half in which they shot just 31 percent from the field at 14.3 percent from behind the 3-point arc.

The Mavericks took their first lead of the game on Wilson's 3-point play to go up 44-43 with 13:34 left in the second half. The lead traded twice more over the next three minutes before Jorge Bilbao sank a pair of free throws to put UTA on top for good, 50-48, and the Mavericks padded it down the stretch.

Ronshad Shabazz led Appalachian State (6-13, 1-7) with 33 points, including a career-high eight 3-pointers. He scored 21 of his points in the first half, going 8-of-10 from the field and connecting on 5 of 7 three pointers.

Following Monday's game at CCU, the Mavericks return home Saturday for a rivalry game against Texas State. UTA will be looking to avenge an 8 point loss earlier this season to the Bobcats in San Marcos.
