ARLINGTON, Texas - Princeton overcame dropping the doubles point by taking the match 4-1 on Wednesday at the UTA Tennis Center.
After UTA (1-3) took the doubles point, momentum seemed to return to the Mavericks' side with leads early in singles. However, Princeton battled back to take the match to improve to 3-0 for the season
Angeles de los Rios and Jessica Birowski won at No. 1 doubles, playing together for the first time this season, 6-3. Astrid Gehre and Anna Wichert joined in to claim the doubles point by also winning 6-3.
UTA picked up early set wins in singles with Gehre winning 6-0 and Birowski going up 6-1. But singles got away from the Mavericks as it would drop No. 5 and No. 6 to give the Tigers their first lead of the match. Agustina Serio battled back from dropping the first set with a 7-6 win in Set 2 in a tie break to keep her match alive as four of the matches went into the third set.
The Tigers inched closer as Birowski was unable to hold back her opponent at No. 4 singles, dropping her match in the third set. Gehre then fell at No. 2 as Princeton won the final three games of the set.
UTA gets a brief break after playing three matches in four days as they host UTRGV on Feb. 5 at 10 a.m.
