Postgame Quotes
UTA coach Scott Cross
Opening Statement
"This is a very important game for us obviously with us being tied with Texas State and them beating us at their place. It was critical for us. Our guys approached it with the right mentality and came out and made up their mind that they were going to defend and play the right way. We took great shots for the majority of the game and moved the ball. It comes down to the defenisve side of the floor, I think that is where we won the game."
On shooting over 60 percent against Texas State
"I think it comes to shot selection. We have been preaching it with our guys. It is part of what makes these guys good, everybody is good and confident. Sometimes you get too confident in your abilities and just need to let the game come to you. We made them guard us a little bit longer than the previous game. We made the extra pass until we got great shots and that is what you have to do against a team like this."
On Hervey's impact
"He has a special nack for passing the ball and that is why we get him in the corner so much. I told him earlier in the week that whenever he has four assists that we've won in the last two years, and he is special when he does that. He creates offense.
Junior forward Kevin Hervey
On his offensive success
"I made good passes tonight and we were taking great shots tonight. We have been working on our game a good bit and I had trust that when we passed the ball around that the person would hit it."
Senior center Jorge Bilbao
On playing his last regular season game against Texas State
"It felt good. They are our rivals and when we went down there we had too much confidence. It felt like the game was more important to them than us. They came out playing really hard. We were really upset that it came down to that. We know how good we are and when we play the right way we can beat anybody in the country. We had this one marked in the calendar. We had to play hard and when we play hard the win is going to come."
Texas State coach Danny Kaspar
Overall thoughts on the game
"It was a very disappointing loss. They played very well today. They seemed very focused and ready for us. I was very disappointed with our interior defense tonight. We let one of their big men, Bilbao, who is not a very accomplished scorer, have too good a night. We just have to bounce back and come ready to play the next two at home."
