BSB: Seventh-Inning Rally Evens Series

March 11, 2017

Box Score | Notes

NOTE: Sunday's series finale has been moved up to 12 p.m. CT at Clay Gould Ballpark.

ARLINGTON, Texas --
Will Olson went 3-for-3 with a two-out, go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning, leading UTA to a series-evening 5-4 win over Milwaukee, on Saturday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.

UTA (7-8) evened the series with the win, rallying from behind after allowing a first-inning run for the second straight night. UTA's runs came from three in the fourth and the decisive two-run seventh, which saw the big hit from Olson and a bases-loaded RBI from Colton Turner.

Milwaukee (7-7) plated one run in the first, two in the fifth and a single run in the eighth inning.

The win marked UTA's 12th game over its first 15 outings that have been decided by three runs or less.

ON THE MOUND
UTA junior righty Trae Patterson made his fourth start of the year. Patterson worked a gem in his second quality start of the year, tossing 6.1 innings, allowing eight hits and three runs, walking one and striking out four.

After a one-out single in the top of the seventh, UTA turned to lefty Brad Vassar for a matchup with a left-handed hitter, with Vassar getting a double play to end the threat. Vassar got three outs, allowing a run on a hit and walk. UTA used Vassar, Dylan Schneider and Austin Gardner to escape the eighth inning with a one-run lead.

Gardner got the final four outs - working around a single - to earn his first career save.

Adam Reuss worked his best start of the year, tossing five innings, allowing five hits and three runs, walking two and striking out four. Milwaukee also used Jared Reklaitis, Reed Blake (0-1), Alex Fischer, Brandon Parr and John Moynihan in relief.

LEADING THE MAVS
Olson led the Mavs at the dish, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. UTA also got a two-hit game off the bench from Noah Vaughan and hits from Turner, Easton Johnson and Omar Salinas.

HOW THEY SCORED
Milwaukee opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, getting a leadoff single from Chris Kelly, and after a sacrifice bunt, Devin Rybacki scored Kelly with a single through the right side. Daulton Varsho followed with a single to put runners on the corners for Ben Chally. Patterson responded to strikeout Chally and get an inning-ending grounder.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, UTA took its first lead. Salinas led off with a single into the gap and Olson followed with a one-out single up the middle, his second of the game. After the second out, Turner delivered a single through the right side, scoring Salinas, with a throwing error from rightfield allowing Olson to score. After an Aaron Funk walk, Johnson extended his hitting streak with an RBI single into shallow centerfield.

Cole Heili got a run back in the top of the fifth inning, belting a towering two-strike, solo homer over the left-centerfield fence. After the homer, Billy Quirke laced a double into the gap and Chris Kelly laid down a perfect drag bunt. Jeremy Wright then chopped an infield hit off the plate and over the head of a leaping Patterson on the mound, loading the bases without an out. Rybacki beat out the back end of a double play ball to score the game-tying run and even up the game at 3-3.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, UTA mounted a rally against the Milwaukee bullpen. Vaughan led off with a pinch-hit single against the sidearm right-hander and after two outs, took second on a hit by pitch from Quintin Rohrbaugh. Olson then greeted a sidearm lefty with a go-ahead RBI single through the right side, his third knock of the game. After the Mavs loaded the bags, Turner was plunked by a pitch to force in a run.

Milwaukee mounted a rally in the top of the eighth inning as Jeremy Wright led off with a single and after a pair of walks loaded the bases, scored on John Boidanis' RBI fielder's choice on a bloop into shallow right-centerfield.
