Postgame Quotes

UTA Head Coach Scott Cross
As coaches, how do you handle a game like that, when it's tight at the half and then you see things degrade in the second half?
"I put my trust in the good Lord, so I trust His will. Obviously, it wasn't meant to be today, so you have to look for lessons, and there were many out there today from this basketball game. The most important was that when we were down, we were struggling and we kind of came apart as a team. We didn't come together, we didn't trust each other, we tried to do it individually. And you can't win basketball games against a great defensive team like Texas State trying to do it individually. What those guys said was true, we do have great team chemistry, but it fell apart. Our guys panicked a little bit, ran out of timeouts basically, so there were no more adjustments. At that point, we were down 15 or 16 with four minutes to go and there is not a whole lot you can do."

Early in the game, you guys jumped out to a sixpoint lead and seemed to be doing well offensively. What do you think happened?
"To me, I think the worst thing that could have happened to us to was to start out on fire. And that's what happened. We were hitting everything, guys were feeling it, and unfortunately for us, when we do that, we take plays off defensively. Against Coastal, we couldn't buy a bucket, so we ended up grinding it out defensively. We took plays off today, and all of a sudden Texas State gets hot and they start feeling it, well they are a team that is disciplined, and they are going to make you guard them for 30 seconds, and when they have a four-point lead, they aren't giving it up."
