Postgame Notes

  • UTA concluded its season with a 27-9 overall record. The team's 27 wins set a program high and its 2 postseason victories was also the most in program history.
  • CSU Bakersfield improved to 25-9 overall and advances to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) semifinals Tuesday night (March 28) against Georgia Tech in Madison Square Garden in New York City The other semifinal includes Central Florida and TCU.
  • CSU Bakersfield's starting lineup consisted of center Moataz Aly, forwards Jaylin Airington and Matt Smith and guards Dedrick Basile and Brent Wrapp.
  • Nathan Hawkins and Faith Pope were UTA's first substitutes off the bench, entering the game at the 13:59 mark of the first half.
  • Senior forward Jorge Bilbao moved into a sole possession of first place on the UTA list for career appearances with 126. Drew Charles moved into a tie for fourth with 124 - along with Jordan Reves (2010-13).
  • Attendance for UTA's game against CSU Bakersfield was announced as 6,336. That is the second-highest total for a UTA basketball game in College Park Center. The top UTA attendance figure was 6,421 against Oklahoma on Nov. 16, 2012. Combined with Monday's 5,390 (5th highest), two of the top five took place during this year's NIT.
  • With his 15 point effort, Junior forward Kevin Hervey has scored in double-figures in 29-straight appearances (He missed the Troy game at Trojan Arena on Jan. 14) and 32 times this season.
  • Hervey scored 15 points against CSU Bakersfield, giving him 1,107 points in his career for 15th on the UTA career scoring list. He surpassed Rog'er Guignard, whoe scored 1,105 points from 2006-09.
  • Hervey's 15 point effort against CSU Bakersfield gives him 597 points on the season, the 4th-highest single season total in program history.
  • Junior guard Erick Neal handed out 5 assists against CSU Bakersfield, giving him 237 on the season to set a program record for most assists in a single season.
  • UTA moved to 3-6 in postseason games and 2-3 all-time in the NIT. The Mavericks' 2 NIT victories is the most in program history for a single postseason tournament run.
  • With the NIT loss to CSU Bakersfield, UTA dropped to 14-1 in College Park Center this season and ended its home win streak of 15-straight dating back to a loss to ULM on Feb. 20, 2016.
  • The loss to CSU Bakersfield also ended UTA's home win streak over non-conference competition to 13-straight. The last non-league home loss for UTA was a setback against Buffalo in the 2014-15 home opener.
