DALLAS, Texas -- Dallas Baptist cranked three home runs in the first two innings to build an early seven-run lead and post a 12-7 win over UTA, on Tuesday night at Horner Ballpark.
UTA (12-14) fell behind early in the first inning as the Patriots belted a pair of homers and plated five runs, adding two runs in the second inning to take an early 7-0 advantage. The Mavs fought back, getting the tying run to the plate in the sixth inning, with UTA plating runs in four straight innings and getting two runs in the seventh.
An offensive game saw a total of 19 runs on 28 hits, with the teams combining to hit five homers and 10 doubles, including nine two baggers from DBU and three home runs.
ON THE MOUND
Junior southpaw Jake Wilcox (2-1) made his first start of the season, allowing six hits and seven runs over 1.2 innings, walking a pair. Matt Michalski relieved Wilcox in the second inning and turned in a strong outing, allowing a pair of runs over 3.2 innings, striking out five. Brad Vassar relieved Michalski, working an inning with two runs allowed and two strikeouts. Jordon West got two outs in the seventh, before Logan Austin started the eighth inning on the mound.
Dallas Baptist (15-9) starter MD Johnson tossed four innings, allowing six hits and two runs, walking one and striking out three. Landon Wilson (1-0), Dalton Higgins, Kragen Kechely, Gavin Fritz and Jimmy Fouse each worked in relief.
AT THE DISH
The Mavs collected 14 hits in the game, getting a three-hit, three-RBI game from Omar Salinas. UTA also got two-hit games from Zac Cook, Noah Vaughan, Aaron Funk, RJ Williams and Easton Johnson, with Vaughan belting his sixth homer of the year. UTA also got a hit from Quintin Rohrbaugh.
HOW THEY SCORED
DBU plated five runs on three hits in the first inning, getting homers from Cameron Duzenack and Hannah Jameson, and a run-scoring double from Garrett Wolforth.
In the bottom of the second inning, DBU added a pair to chase Wilcox from the game. Luke Stratman led off with a homer to rightfield and Matt Duce scored a run with a RBI double.
Salinas got the Mavs on the board in the top of the third inning, lacing his second homer of the year over the leftfield fence.
DBU got the run back with a pair of one-out doubles in the third, including a RBI knock from Camryn Williams.
In the top of the fourth inning, UTA mounted a two-out rally. Williams led off with a hard-hit single up the middle, taking second on Funk's single - poked through the left side of the infield with two strikes. Johnson followed with a single into centerfield to score Williams.
UTA got a run back in the top of the fifth inning, as Salinas led off with a single through the right side and Rohrbaugh followed with a ringing single up the middle to push Salinas to third base. Will Olson then chopped a roller to the right side, forcing Salinas home with a double play.
Vaughan cranked his sixth homer of the year in the top of the sixth inning, cutting the lead to 8-4 with a solo shot over the rightfield fence. After a pair of outs, Johnson reached on an infield, high-chopping single and Cook drew a walk. A wild pitch moved the runners up a base and Johnson scored from third on a passed ball to cut the lead to 8-5.
The Patriots got a run back in the bottom of the sixth inning as Jameson led off with a hit by pitch, scoring on Matt Duce's sacrifice fly.
DBU chased Vassar from the game in the seventh inning, getting a one-out single and a double. Luke Sratman scored one run with a single into shallow centerfield. A double steal then allowed Camry Williams to score the 11th run for DBU.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Mavs clawed closer, getting a leadoff walk from Williams and a single from Funk to open the frame. Cook then loaded the bases with a perfectly placed bunt single down the third-base line to bring up Salinas. Salinas pounded a two-run double off the high wall in leftfield, scoring Williams and Funk and moving Cook to third.

UTA will return to action on Friday, opening a three-game series with Troy at 6:30 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
