April 3, 2017 ARLINGTON, Texas -- UTA junior Omar Salinas - who belted four homers last week - has been named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week in a voting of the league coaches, it was announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
A product of Arlington High School, Salinas pieced together a blistering pace during a four-game week for UTA, going 7-for-15 with four homers, one double and 11 RBI. He drew two walks without a strikeout and added a sacrifice fly. Overall in four games, he came to the plate 17 times, reaching via a hit or walk nine times. Salinas drove in eight runs in the series win over Troy, belting three homers, including a two-homer game in the finale and drove in eight of UTA's 17 runs in the series with Troy.
Salinas sports a six-game hitting streak, going 11-for-24 with two doubles, four homers and 12 RBI during the stretch.
On the year, Salinas has reached base safely in 24 of his 25 starts, leading the team with 27 RBI. He has hit .302 (29-for-96) with six doubles, five homers and a .521 slugging percentage. With 20 walks to 15 strikeouts, Salinas sports a .438 on-base percentage.
In his first eight career Sun Belt games, Salinas has hit .333 (10-for-30) with two doubles, four homers and 14 RBI, drawing six walks without a strikeout. He has come to the plate 38 times in league action and has reached base safely 17 times.
