TROY, Ala. - Following its run into the Sun Belt Championship semifinals, UTA featured two selections on the All-Tournament team, announced after the conclusion of the championship game on Saturday.
Sophomores Sam Clakley and Laura Curry helped the Mavs make their run through the tournament on the way to a 3-2 record and a heartbreaking, 1-0 loss to Texas State in the team's final game.
Clakley pitched in all five games, making four starts on the way to a 3-2 record. She featured a 3.04 ERA and struck out 10. Clakley pitched a two-hitter in the semifinal against the Bobcats.
Curry featured a team-high six RBI as the outfielder went 6-for-14 from the plate with six hits, one triple and a home run. Curry's three-run home run with two outs in the seventh against Georgia State help the Mavs take the elimination matchup, while her triple against South Alabama led to the Mavs tying the game, eventually winning 2-1 on a walk-off in the seventh.
UTA, 32-26, will await information over the weekend of a potential postseason bid. The Mavs were named as one of several teams in the Sun Belt on the NISC postseason tournament "Watch List" and featured a RPI of 82 entering the week.
