ARLINGTON, Texas - During the summer months, UTA will produce a video feature highlighting the success of each of its intercollegiate sports teams from the 2016-17 season. The third of our eight-part series features UTA tennis.

The 2016-17 edition of UTA men's and women's tennis saw the conclusion of record-breaking careers from individuals that are sprinkled throughout the all-time marks.

On the women's side, a 11-10 campaign was helped along by a group of four seniors that went up against top competition week in and week out. First-team All-Sun Belt selections, Astrid Gehre and Anna Wichert won their first 18 doubles matches to enter the ITA/Oracle Collegiate Rankings to help earn the program's second NCAA Doubles Championship selection in three years. Gehre, finishing 21-7 overall in doubles, closed out a storied career with 78 doubles wins, good for second in program history.

Valeria Lopez and Agustina Serio joined Gehre and Wichert as first-team selections as they finished the year with an 11-2 doubles record. Angeles de los Rios was named to the league's second team in singles as she went 18-6 for the season. De los Rios finished third in program history for singles wins with a career record of 80-34.

Serio, the 2016 Sun Belt Player to Watch, continues her pace towards UTA's all-time winning percentage mark, holding a 61-21 career mark (.744), just decimal points behind the all-time mark (.765, Maria Martinez-Romer, 2008-12).

On the men's side, UTA went 14-9 to earn the No. 3 seed in the Sun Belt Championship tournament, but couldn't replicate the 2016 championship run. Jhonathan Gonzalez was a first-team selection with a league-best 22-6 record. He was named to the league's second team in doubles with teammate Mauricio Del Rio as the pair went 11-6, including spending most of the season as a Top-75 team in the rankings with a win over the No. 7 tandem in the country.
