COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The UTA cross country teams were tested Saturday morning by a strong field and challenging course at the Texas A&M Invitational. The Maverick men placed sixth among 18 teams, while the women snagged ninth out of 17 schools.

"We learned a lot about our teams today," UTA coach John Sauerhage said. "It was good to run against strong fields as we continue to make progress toward our goals. We have work to do, and we will do it"

Justin Domangue led the way for the men for the second time in as many meets, placing fourth individually. He completed the 8k layout with a time of 24:12.4, which was just 21 seconds off the winning pace. The sophomore has placed among the top five in both meets this season.

Senior Grayson Birka also had a strong run, clocking in at 24:46.3 to take 25th place. Joel Duren was just four seconds behind Birka, as he placed 29th with a 24:50.2.

Brady Steele (44th, 25:04.4) and Tyler Forde (48th, 25:08.5) were the final point scorers for UTA. Texas A&M won the meet with a total of 62 points, while UTA had 143, just one point out of fifth place.

On the women's side, Tori Shelton was the top finisher for the Mavericks, as she came in 26th. She carded a 6k time of 21:58.4. Astrid Rosvall was second across the line for UTA. Her time of 22:27.4 was good for 39th position.

Macey Beazley came in 10 spots later in a tight pack, as she finished just nine seconds behind Rosvall to also earn a top-50 finish (49th, 22:36.5). Rounding out the Mavs' top five were Bailey Balmer, who took 66th place (23:08.2), and Taylor Repa, who placed 76th in 23:27.5.

The Mavericks return to action next Saturday at another challenging meet, the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
