ARLINGTON - The eyes of the Sun Belt will be on San Marcos on Tuesday night, as the top teams in the SBC West Division clash in an in-state rivalry that dates back to 1973.Â
Texas State and UT Arlington have shared a rivalry that has spanned three different conferences through realignment, but Tuesday night's battle marks one of the first in the Sun Belt with first-place in the division on the line. Texas State is undefeated in league play at 4-0 and are 13-5 overall, while the Mavericks are 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the Sun Belt.Â
The Mavericks are coming off a thrilling weekend at College Park Center that saw UTA on the right side of two five-set matches against Arkansas State and Little Rock. UTA ended a six-match losing streak to the Red Wolves on Friday night, and then overturned an 8-2 deficit in the tiebreaker to top the Trojans on Saturday. The effort helped
Madelyn St. Germain earn her second Defensive Player of the Week award, getting 60 digs in the matches, including a season-high 35 on Saturday night.Â
UTA will be seeking to end a similar streak against the Bobcats on Tuesday. UTA has dropped the last eight meetings with the West Division preseason favorites dating back to UTA's last win in 2013. The Mavs came close in the home matchup last season, falling in five at CPC.Â
