ARLINGTON – In a battle of teams that put up big offensive numbers to open the season, UT Arlington hosts Arkansas at College Park Center on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
UTA is celebrating Arlington ISD Appreciation Night on Wednesday. All AISD students, teachers and family receive discounted $3 tickets with the promo code ARLINGTON on UTATickets.com, while fans can show their AISD I.D. at the College Park Center Box Office.
The Lady Mavericks (1-0) posted 99 points in a win over Jackson State on Saturday night, marking the largest total ever in a season opener, as well as 58 points in the second half for the most in a half in program history. Arkansas (1-0) topped Northwestern State 98-53 on Friday.
It was a 3-point party on Saturday with the Lady Mavericks dropping 10 from beyond the arc. The attack was led by freshman
Claire Chastain, who hit on three on the way to a game-high 16 points. Freshmen
Terryn Milton and
Katie Ferrell each dished seven assists apiece with UTA totaling 26 overall. Career highs also came from sophomore
Kelsey Johnson (12) and junior
Brooke Alexander (10).
The matchup marks the first Power 5 opponent at play at College Park Center since 2012 when Oklahoma State visited. UTA and Arkansas are meeting for the second consecutive year with the Razorbacks taking all seven meetings all-time.
Laurynn McGowen led UTA players returning for this year's meeting with 10 points in Fayetteville.
Wednesday's test will give UTA an opportunity to continue its strong history in the month of November over the last three seasons, while also a chance to end a negative streak against Power 5 opponents that stretches back to the last win against Kansas in 2004. UTA has began the previous two seasons with a five-game winning streak and are 11-1 in the month of November dating back to the 2016-17 season.
