SAN ANTONIO, Texas – UT Arlington enters the middle of its five-game road trip when it travels down I-35 to take on Incarnate Word on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Lady Mavericks are 3-2 overall after splitting a pair of games on the west coast, falling to Fresno State before bouncing back at San Francisco last Sunday. Averaging 76.6 points per game, second best in the Sun Belt, UTA brings its potent offense to a UIW team that is seeking its first win in seven attempts.
Mixing and matching lineups this season, UTA saw its third different set within its starting five against the Dons in the last time out. With three freshmen on the floor, it was all three that led the attack as they went into double-digit scoring.
Claire Chastain led in her first start with a team-high 18 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the field.
Katie Ferrell scored 11 to go with nine rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks.
Senior
Cierra Johnson edged closer to becoming the 19th member of UTA's 1,000-point club. The Bedford, Texas native has 969 in her career. Johnson leads UTA with 12.8 points per game.
Sunday's matchup marks just the fourth all-time between the programs. UTA leads the all-time series 2-1, including a 61-48 win in last year's season opener at College Park Center. Now student coach
Rebekah VanDijk was the lone player in double figures with 11, while seven Lady Mavericks scored at least five. Sunday's battle is the first in San Antonio.
