ARLINGTON, Texas -- Josh Minjarez belted his third homer of the year and Logan Austin won his third game in relief, leading UTA baseball to a 4-2 win over Arkansas State to even the three game series in the finale of a doubleheader on Saturday at Clay Gould Ballpark.

UTA (17-17, 8-6 Sun Belt Conference) bounced back to even the series with the nightcap of the doubleheader on Saturday, after falling in the first game, 6-4 after allowing six runs in the first three innings.

The Mavs took an early lead after a single run in the third but Arkansas State took a one-run advantage with two in the fifth. Minjarez cranked a two-out, game-tying blast in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Mavs rallied with two runs in the eighth inning to post the 4-2 win.

LEADING THE MAVS
UTA collected six hits in the game, with Minjarez, Zac Cook and Christian Hollie each going 2-for-4. Cook had a triple and two RBI, with Hollie ripping his 10th double and Minjarez collecting his eighth double and second of the day.

ON THE MOUND
UTA starter Trae Patterson worked six innings, allowing five hits and two runs - one earned - walking two and striking out four in his third quality start of the year. Austin (3-0) opened the seventh inning in a tie game working two perfect innings, striking out four.

Senior Daniel James took over in the ninth and got the final three outs for his fourth save of the year and the 20th of his career, putting him in third place in UTA history and just four saves shy of the career mark.

Arkansas State (12-19, 4-10 Sun Belt) starter Nate Alberius worked seven strong innings, allowing four hits and two runs, walking one and striking out four. Bryan Ayers (1-1) opened the eighth inning in a tie game and got an out before allowing a one-out double. Chase Nix came on after the double in the eighth and walked a left-handed hitter before giving way to Tanner Kirby.

NEXT
The series will conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT at Clay Gould Ballpark. The Mavs will send junior righty Ka'ikepono Anderson (0-1, 5.91 ERA) to the mound to face junior righty Peyton Culbertson (1-3, 3.31 ERA). The game will be broadcast live on UTAMavs.com, with the Voice of UTA Baseball, Josh Sours, calling the action.

HOW THEY SCORED
UTA broke the seal in the bottom of the third inning, getting a one-out triple smoked off the wall in rightfield from Cook. Minjarez then grounded to the right side, allowing Cook to score ahead of the throw to the plate.

Arkansas State took the lead with two runs on three hits and an error in the top of the fifth inning. Drew Tipton led off with a double, taking second on a sac bunt and scoring on Grant Hawkins' RBI single. Hawkins came around to score after a single from Kyle MacDonald and a throwing error.

Minjarez tied it up in the bottom of the fifth inning, belting his third homer of the year over the leftfield fence with two outs.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, UTA got a one-out double from Minjarez and a full-count walk from Olson. Hollie then dropped an RBI double down the rightfield line to score Minjarez. After loading the bases with an intentional walk to Vaughan, Renning was plunked by a two-strike pitch.
