ARLINGTON, Texas –
UTA coach John Sauerhage
has announced the 2018 men's and women's cross country schedule. The slate, which begins in just over a month, features five regular season meets prior to the year's signature events, the Sun Belt Conference Championships, NCAA South Central Regional and NCAA Championships.
"We are excited about the season approaching," Sauerhage said. "We have a schedule that will help us prepare for our biggest meets, and we have high ambitions for successful seasons."
The Mavericks get their season started Friday, Aug. 31 in Waco, Texas, at the Baylor Bear Twilight Invitational. It is the first of three meets that will be held within 100 miles of Arlington.
Following the opener, the men and women will return home to compete in the Gerald Richey UTA Invitational on Friday, Sept. 7. It is the first time that the annual event will be contested on a Friday morning. While it is a change from its customary Saturday morning slot, the meet will be held at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie for the sixth consecutive season.
The Mavs will stay close the following week as well, as the teams will compete in North Texas' Ken Garland Invitational in Denton on Saturday, Sept. 15.
The lone out-of-state regular season meet for UTA will be the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Friday, Sept. 28. It is the second time in three years that the Mavs will be participating in the prestigious meet.
The final tune up for the Sun Belt Conference Championships, the Texas A&M Invitational, is set for Saturday, Oct. 13 in College Station. The Watts Cross Country Course will also serve as the site of the NCAA South Central Championships (Friday, Nov. 9).
This year's SBC Championships will be held Saturday, Oct. 27 in Mobile, Ala. The NCAA Championships are located in Madison, Wis., on Nov. 23.
