ARLINGTON, Texas - Kathy Wagner, Director of Strength and Conditioning for UTA Athletics, announced the addition of Dominick Walker to her staff, taking over the primary responsibilities for men's basketball.
Walker joins UTA after spending time as a strength and conditioning coach for the Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA, as well as a S&C coach for the University of Louisiana Lafayette.
"I am very excited to have coach Walker join our strength and conditioning staff," Wagner said. "He brings experience from both the collegiate and professional level. The addition of a strength coach for men's basketball will be an asset to our overall program."
Previously, the men's and women's basketball duties were shared by Danny Wardell, who has shifted into a full-time focus on the Lady Mavericks for the upcoming season. Wardell is also a strength and conditioning coach for the WNBA's Dallas Wings.
Walker spent two seasons as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Angelo State University, where he worked with men's and women's basketball along with women's golf. He spent the summer of 2013 as an strength and conditioning intern with men's basketball at the University of Texas, worked in strength and conditioning at McMurry University, strength and conditioning intern with men's basketball at Virginia Commonwealth University, and an athletic performance intern at Baylor University assisting with football, men's basketball, and women's basketball.
A team captain and two-year letterwinner on the basketball team at McMurry, Walker programed and implemented the team's strength and conditioning program and helped the War Hawks to 39 wins. He earned All-American Southwest Conference honorable-mention honors after finishing as the team's second-leading rebounder in 2011-12.
Walker earned an associate degree in General Studies from Lon Morris College in 2011, a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from McMurry in 2013Â and a Master of Education in Coaching, Sport, Recreation and Fitness Administration from Angelo State in 2015.
He is a certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS), the National Academy of Sports Medicine (CES), the Gray Institute in Applied Functional Science and 3-Dimensional Movement Analysis and Performance Systems and Functional Range Conditioning as a mobility specialist. He also holds First Aid and CPR/AED certifications from the Red Cross.
