Final tuneup on tap with Mav Invitational opening Friday

UTA Notes | Watch | Stats

ARLINGTON, Texas
- The red hot UT Arlington volleyball team returns to College Park Center for its final tuneup of the nonconference slate. UTA hosts the 2018 Maverick Invitational with Belmont, Grand Canyon and Sam Houston State taking part in the two-day tournament kicking off on Friday. The Mavericks open with Grand Canyon at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night.

The Mavericks have won four consecutive matches, including back-to-back sweeps, in improving their overall to 4-3. The four-match winning streak is the longest under coach J.T. Wenger as his squad looks to match a five-match streak achieved in 2016, as well eight-in-a-row in 2014. The streak has come on the heels of UTA taking all three matches in the home-opening weekend on Aug.31-Sept. 1 in the Maverick Classic and then sweeping Incarnate Word on the road in last week's only match.

It's been a balanced attack with the tandem of Madison Hill and Zhanelle Geathers leading the attack. Hill has knocked down a team-high 62 kills this season, while Geathers is on her heels with 61. The efficiency has resulted in Hill moving up to third in the Sun Belt and 62nd in the nation with a .380 hitting percentage, while Geathers is approaching entering the 1,000-kill club with 954 in her career, 70th among NCAA Active Division I Career Leaders.
