BEAUMONT, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team went undefeated during day one of the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational at Lamar University Friday. They went 4-0 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles action.
The day began with singles competition where
Alejandro Hayen defeated Alan Sanson of UTSA 6-3, 6-0 in Flight 1, Pool A.
Alan Sau competed in Pool B of Flight 1, winning his match against Nicholls Drobnjakovic in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
In Flight 2,
Miguel Cabrera defeated Tyler Junior College's Gasperini in a tough 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 match.
Solano Caffarena finished the day in singles play for the Mavericks, winning his first match in Flight 3, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 over Nicholls Ricardo Machado.
In doubles play, all three Maverick teams cruised to victory. The tandem of Sau and Hayen defeated Lamar's Paton Canal/Sundaram 6-2 in Flight 1. In Flight 2, Cabrera and
Daichi Akiyoshi defeated Nicholls Drobnjakovic/Scheuffler 6-2. The team of Caffarena and
Ricardo Alban defeated UTSA's Poestinger and Nishihara 6-3.
The Mavericks will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational where they will look to stay undefeated on the weekend. The matches will begin at 9 am.
