ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington head softball coach
Peejay Brun released the 2020 schedule Wednesday afternoon as excitement continues to build for their upcoming season. The schedule features seven games against opponents that played in an NCAA Regional game, including three teams that advanced to the NCAA Women's College World Series.
"I'm excited about this year's schedule," said Brun. "We have a good power balance throughout the year and are facing some of the best teams in the nation. It will be challenging, but I feel this team is up for that challenge."
The Mavericks will open the season at the Aggie Classic in College Station beginning Feb. 9. They will take on Abilene Christian and the host, Texas A&M in the three-day tournament. The following two weekends will feature two tournaments at Allan Saxe Field, with a midweek game at Baylor in between on Feb. 19.
UTA will welcome Kent State, UMKC, SFA and Texas Southern to the Maverick Classic for a three-day tournament beginning Feb. 21. The following weekend, the Mavs will host a pair of Big 12 and Big 10 foes in Kansas and Rutgers, along with UTSA to the Boerner Invitational.
The Mavs round out February at the Easton Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Feb. 28. UTA will take on two teams that made it to the NCAA Women's College World Series while in Tuscaloosa in the likes of Alabama and Arizona. The Tide and Wildcats finished the 2019 season ranked No. 4 and No. 7 respectively.
Sun Belt Conference competition will begin March 6 with a home series against Troy. The Mavs will also host Appalachian State (March 20-22), Georgia State (April 9-11) and Louisiana (April 24-26). Senior Day will be against the Ragin' Cajuns on April 26.
The Mavericks will finish the regular season in San Marcos for a three-game Sun Belt series against Texas State beginning April 30 and ending May 2.
The Sun Belt Tournament takes place May 6-9 in Atlanta, Georgia and is hosted by Georgia State. NCAA postseason play kicks off May 15 with the first round of the NCAA Regionals.
Other notable games include traveling to Austin for a game against the Longhorns on March 25 and hosting the 2019 NCAA College World Series Runners-Up, Oklahoma, for a mid-week game at Allan Saxe Field on April 22.
