THE SERIES
UTA holds a 9-6 lead in the series, which began in 2014 when both teams joined the Sun Belt Conference.
The Mavericks swept the three-game series in Arlington last season. GSU led in all three games, but UTA rallied, including walk-off homers in Games 2 and 3.
Georgia State's last win in the series was a 2-1 victory in Atlanta in 2017.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | GEORGIA STATE
- Friday starter Hunter Gaddis is the reigning Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week after a combined shutout over Appalachian State. He pitched eight scoreless innings with a season-high 10 strikeouts while allowing just four hits, all singles, in the 2-0 win. The 6-6 right-hander earned the third Sun Belt weekly honor of his career.
- Gaddis, the Preseason All-America and Preseason Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year, ranks fourth in GSU history with 199 career strikeouts and 10th with 14 career victories. That includes a 9-4 record and a 2.95 ERA in 2018, when he tied for the Sun Belt lead in victories while ranking second in the league in innings pitched (100.2), third in strikeouts (98) and fourth in ERA.
- Sophomore shortstop Griffin Cheney leads the Panthers with a .333 batting average. Since entering the starting lineup in Game 3, he has reached base in every game but one.
- The Panthers clinched their series at Appalachian State with an offensive explosion in Sunday's 17-6 victory. GSU scored eight runs in the second inning and never looked back. The 17 runs are the most that Georgia State has ever scored in a Sun Belt game.
- Now in his 13th season as the Georgia State head coach, Greg Frady is the Panthers' career victory leader with 362 in Atlanta as part of his 549 career wins in his 19th season.
BARK IN THE PARK…ALL SEASON LONG
UT Arlington Department of Athletics officials announced that all 2019 home baseball games at Clay Gould Ballpark and softball games at Allan Saxe Field will be dog-friendly, thanks to a generous partnership with upstart Lone Star Friends of Animals to create 'Casey's Corner.'
Dogs which are leashed, at least six months old and with the proper vaccinations will be permitted at all UTA baseball and softball games throughout the season.
Casey's Corner is a grassy area between the baseball and softball fields, along the 3rd-base line of the baseball stadium. Multiple pet waste stations have been set up, and the space provides fans and dog owners an opportunity to walk and sit with their canine companions while taking in all the Maverick action.
