ARLINGTON, Texas -- Whitney Walton collected two hits and a run on the way to UTA's 7-2 victory over Southern Alabama Saturday at Allen Saxe Field.

Southern Alabama got out in front early with a solo home run by right-fielder, Victoria Ortiz in the top of the first inning.
UTA wasted no time catching up and taking the lead as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first.

UTA catcher, Reagan Wright drove in two runs on a single to left field. Wright scored later in the inning as designated player, Kayci Moore walked with the bases loaded. The next batter, second-baseman, Melanie Mendoza was hit by a pitch with the bases still loaded, scoring another run.

UTA continued to add runs in the third inning as right-fielder, Bri Burchianti scored on a sacrifice-fly to right by Moore, and Walton drove in third-baseman, Brittany Wyllie on an infield-single.

Walton finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base.

Another run was added in the fourth as first-baseman, Aileen Garcia blasted a solo home run to left-center.

Pitcher, Allie Gardiner picked up the win as she gave up just one run on five hits and no walks in four innings of relief.
