Andrew Gross set the UTA single-season record for saves as he helped UTA beat no. 19 TCU for the first time in three tries this season in a 6-3 Mavs home win Tuesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Trailing by three runs, the Horned Frogs loaded the bases with two outs, but Gross forced a ground out to notch his 15th save of the season. Gross' 15 saves topped the old UTA program record for saves in a season of 14 (Jason Watkins, 1992).
Dylan Paul's sac fly brought
Will Olson home for the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning.
UTA's first two hitters reached base in the bottom of the third inning, setting the stage for
Zac Cook to single
Aaron Funk home.
In the following at-bat,
Boone Montgomery scored on an
Anthony Dominguez sac fly. UTA closed out the three-run inning with Olson driving Cook home for a 4-0 Mavs lead.
Paul led the fourth inning off with his third home run of the season to give the Mavs a 5-0 lead.
Olson showed his value behind the plate in the top of the fifth when he and Montgomery combined to pick off Zach Humphreys at third. Humphreys led off the inning with a triple.
The Mavs added another run when
Andrew Miller grounded out to third base to score Cook in the bottom of the fifth.

Dylan Schneider then came in the game, forced a double play and a flyout to get out of the inning.
TCU added another run in the eighth inning, but the Horned Frogs never got closer than three runs.

For the first time this season, the UTA baseball team (24-13 overall, 11-4 SBC) is ranked in a national poll. In this week's Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I Poll presented by Big League Chew, the Mavericks are ranked 29th in the nation.
The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1959 college baseball season.
The Mavs, who are the lone Sun Belt squad to appear in this week's poll, are in the midst of a 5-game winning streak, which includes a win over No. 17 Baylor (2-1; 13 inn.).
BARK IN THE PARK…ALL SEASON LONG
UT Arlington Department of Athletics officials announced that all 2019 home baseball games at Clay Gould Ballpark and softball games at Allan Saxe Field will be dog-friendly, thanks to a generous partnership with upstart Lone Star Friends of Animals to create 'Casey's Corner.'
Dogs which are leashed, at least six months old and with the proper vaccinations will be permitted at all UTA baseball and softball games throughout the season.
Casey's Corner is a grassy area between the baseball and softball fields, along the 3rd-base line of the baseball stadium. Multiple pet waste stations have been set up, and the space provides fans and dog owners an opportunity to walk and sit with their canine companions while taking in all the Maverick action.
