ARLINGTON – UT Arlington Department of Athletics officials honored nearly 70 standout student-athletes at the annual Academic Excellence Luncheon on Wednesday.
 
In total, 69 members of all 15 teams were recognized as Scholar Athletes of the Year or Super Scholar Athletes of the Year for their stalwart academic achievements.
 
Utilizing GPAs from the Spring 2018 and Fall 2018 semesters, below is the criteria utilized for each honor:
 
Scholar Athletes of the Year
Student-athletes who earned a 3.8 GPA or higher in either Spring 2018 or Fall 2018 OR who maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 for two or more semesters and who enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours.
 
Super Scholar Athletes of the Year
Student-athletes who earned a 4.0 GPA in either Spring 2018 or Fall 2018 OR who maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.6 for two or more semesters and who enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours.
 
"In the recruiting process we talk so much about how academics comes first, and this luncheon is a chance for us to pull those top-performing student-athletes together," said event organizer and Executive Senior Associate Director of Athletics / Senior Woman Administrator Debbie Garcia. "We try to recognize academic success all year, and today was another great opportunity to do that."
