ARLINGTON, Texas – The UTA Movin' Mavs men's and women's wheelchair basketball teams are set to compete on the national stage this week at the 2026 National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (NIWBT), held April 1–4 in Tucson, Arizona. Hosted by the University of Arizona, the NIWBT brings together the nation's top collegiate programs as teams compete for a national championship and the opportunity to add to their program legacies.
Tournament Outlook
Both Movin' Mavs programs enter the tournament in strong position following competitive performances throughout the season. The Movin' Mavs men's team earned the No. 4 seed and will open play in the national quarterfinals, facing the winner of No. 5 Illinois and No. 12 Michigan. On the women's side, the Lady Movin' Mavs secured the No. 2 seed and will compete in the national semifinals against No. 3 Arizona, placing them just one win away from a national championship appearance. Game times and full bracket details can be found on the
official tournament page, with updates to follow throughout the week.
Championship Pedigree
UTA's wheelchair basketball programs have long been among the nation's elite. The Movin' Mavs program will look to add to its legacy of 12 national championships. With that tradition of success, both teams head to Tucson with championship expectations and the experience needed to compete deep into the bracket.
Building Momentum
UTA enters nationals following a strong stretch of play, including hosting one of the premier collegiate wheelchair basketball tournaments earlier this month. Competing in front of a home crowd helped the Movin' Mavs build momentum and sharpen their approach heading into postseason competition. Now, that preparation turns into opportunity on the sport's biggest collegiate stage.
What's at Stake
The NIWBT represents the pinnacle of collegiate adaptive athletics, bringing together elite competition from across the country while highlighting the growth and impact of wheelchair basketball at the intercollegiate level. For UTA, it's another chance to reinforce its national reputation, compete for championships, and continue a legacy that has defined the Movin' Mavs program for decades.
