
Men's Tennis Leads Sun Belt with Four All-Conference Honors

ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington men's tennis team earned four selections to the All-Sun Belt teams, announced by the league office on Wednesday. Enrique Pardo and Guanarteme Nuez were named First Team All-Sun Belt in singles play, while Nuez also picked up a first team selection in doubles play with partner Mauricio Rio. Pardo earned the nod for Second Team All-Sun Belt in doubles play with teammate Eduard Simo.
Pardo finished with a team-high 16 wins in the spring. The win total was also the second most in the conference for all singles positions. He was tied for the league lead on court one with 11 wins. For the year, Pardo picked up 22 wins and a winning percentage of .733 - the fifth best winning percentage in Maverick history.
Nuez is currently the 89th-ranked player in the country, not only the highest ranked player in the Sun Belt, but the only ranked player in the league. He picked up two wins over ranked opponents this season, with the highlight coming on an upset of No. 11 Jack Lin of Columbia. He finished the season with 13 wins in the spring and 19 total wins on the year.
The tandem of Nuez and Rio were dominate in conference play this season, going a perfect 4-0 on court one against Sun Belt opponents. On the season, the duo picked up nine wins in the spring to earn a second straight First Team All-Sun Belt selection.
Pardo and Simo were equally as impressive in doubles play for the Mavericks, winning picking up 11 wins on the season. The newly formed team picked up their chemistry quickly, leading the Mavericks with 11 wins in doubles play. The tandem led the league in wins on court two, as all 11 came in the No. 2 competition.
UTA led the Sun Belt with four All-Conference selections (two singles players, two doubles teams), along with South Alabama (three singles players, one doubles team).
After securing the #4 seed, UTA will head to Peachtree City, Georgia to compete in the Sun Belt Championships beginning Friday at 5 p.m. against Louisiana.
