ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington softball team completed the sweep of Coastal Carolina as they beat the Chanticleers 6-4 on Saturday at Allen Saxe Field.
Mavericks' third-baseman,
Brittany Wyllie had a big game as she went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.
The Mavericks (23-22, 12-9 Sun Belt) got the bats going early as right-fielder,
Bri Burchianti singled up the middle, followed by a bunt-single by center-fielder,
Laura Curry to put runners on first and second in the bottom of the first inning. After catcher,
Reagan Wright drew a walk to load the bases, Wyllie hit a bloop-single to center field to bring home Burchianti and Curry to give UTA a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
UTA's lead didn't last long as Coastal Carolina designated-player, Adrienne Visintine hit a two-run shot to left-center field to even things up at two in the top of the second inning.
Maverick starter,
Laura Henriksen pitched 1.1 innings and surrendered 2 earned runs on three hits and two walks.
Coastal Carolina took the lead as catcher, Samantha Sack hit a two-run homer to center field to make it 4-2 in the top of the fourth.
After taking over in the second, reliever,
Randi Phillips pitched 2.2 innings and gave up 2 earned runs on two hits and a walk and struck out one batter.
The Mavericks made it a one-run game as left-fielder,
Melanie Mendoza hit a double to shallow-right field to bring home second-baseman,
Avery Grimes to bring the score to 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth. Grimes finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.
UTA rallied with two outs in the bottom of the fifth as first-baseman,
Aileen Garcia and Wright both singled to put runners on first and second for Wyllie. Garcia finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and Wright finished 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Wyllie collected her third hit of the day as she brought home Garcia on a single to left field to tie the game 4-4.
The Mavericks took the lead as designated-player, K.J. Murphy doubled to right-center field to bring home Wright and Wyllie, making it 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth. Murphy finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Reliever,
Allie Gardiner (5-5) got the win for the Mavericks as she pitched three innings and gave up no runs on no hits or walks and struck out two batters.
Coastal Carolina starter, Kaitlin Beasley-Polko pitched 4.2 innings and gave up 6 earned runs on 11 hits and a walk and struck out two batters.

UTA will have the next five days off as they get ready to visit Appalachian State Friday for an important series against the Mountaineers.
