UTA NOTES

• The Mavs are 28-14 overall and sit alone at the top of the Sun Belt standings.
Connor Aube (.357 batting avg.) and Zac Cook (.305 batting avg.) lead the Mavs at the dish.
• 119 of UTA's 404 hits are extra base hits.
• UTA is currently third in the Sun Belt in batting average, hitting a combined .278 as a team.
Andrew Gross leads the Sun Belt and the nation in saves (16).
Andrew Gross is closing in on Sun Belt single-season records for saves. Gross became UTA's leader in single-season saves with his save in UTA's 6-3 win over No. 19 TCU on April 16. The SBC record for saves in a season is 18 (Hugh Adams - FAU, 2013).

UP NEXT
Following the 3-game SBC series at Appalachian State, the Mavs return to Clay Gould Ballpark to host Dallas Baptists on April 30 and then head back out on the road for a 3-game set at ULM (May 3-5).

KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | APP STATE
• Named the league's No. 2 impact freshman by D1Baseball, Tyler Tuthill is tied for No. 3 in the Sun Belt in victories (five). He is No. 8 in ERA (3.47) and No. 2 in opposing batting average (.208, behind just a .192 from ULM's Trey Jeans). Tuthill, who had six strikeouts and one earned run allowed in 4.1 innings last weekend at Troy, is tied for No. 8 nationally in wins for a D1 freshman.

• Freshman infielder Luke Drumheller, who has hit safely in 29 of his last 32 games, leads the Sun Belt in average (.383, No. 49 nationally) while also ranking second in hits per game (1.50, No. 51 nationally) and second in doubles (14, No. 55 nationally). He leads the team with 33 RBIs. Drumheller's .383 average ranks No. 2 nationally among D1 freshmen, behind just the .387 mark from UIC catcher Ryan Hampe, who has played only 27 games.

LAST TIME OUT | LONG BALL CARRIES NO. 6 TEXAS A&M TO WIN OVER MAVS
T\UTA's demanding non-conference schedule continued on the road Tuesday at No. 6 Texas A&M, with the Aggies pulling away late to beat the Mavs 10-5.

The loss snapped a nine-game UTA (28-14) winning streak. It also snapped a two-game non-conference game winning streak.

Anthony Dominguez drove in three runs to lead the way for the Mavs. Phillip Childs went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs in the loss.

Phillip Childs and Aaron Funk opened the third inning by getting on base. A Boone Montgomery sacrifice bunt moved both runners over. Finally, Zac Cook hit a sac fly to right field to bring Childs home.

The Aggies (30-12-1) tied it up with a solo home run in the bottom of the third.

The Mavs got two quick outs in the bottom of the fourth, but the next two batters got on base. That set up Ty Coleman to hit a three-run homer that gave Texas A&M a 4-1 lead.

The Aggies added another run in the bottom of the fifth, but Drew Gooch, who came on in relief to start the inning, limited the damage. He got out of a bases-loaded jam after the run was scored when he forced a double play to end the inning.

The Mavs began closing the gap in the top of the seventh inning. After Dylan Paul drew a walk to start the inning, doubled down the left field line to put Paul in scoring position. Montgomery drew another walk to load the bases for Anthony Dominguez. Two runs came around to score on Dominguez's single, which cut the deficit to a pair of runs.

UTA threatened again in the eighth, but couldn't bring Josh Minjarez home from second. That would prove problematic for the Mavs, as the Aggies scored five runs in the bottom of the frame to put the game out of reach. The dagger came on a Braden Shewmake three-run homer that made it 10-3.

UTA scored a couple of runs in the ninth to make the final margin five runs.

NATIONALLY RANKED
The UTA baseball team moved up nine spots to No. 20 in this week's Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I Poll presented by Big League Chew. This marks the second time this season that the Mavs have appeared in a national poll.

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1959 college baseball season. UCLA took the top spot in the poll for the third straight week, while Stanford took the No. 2 position. Defending NCAA Champs Oregon State, Georgia and Vanderbilt rounded out the top-five.

The lone Sun Belt squad to appear in this week's poll, UTA went 4-0 last week, including a huge 6-3 win over then-No. 19 TCU and a three-game sweep of Sun Belt Conference foe Louisiana.

WATCHIN' THE WATCH LISTS
UTA has had a trio of student-athletes named to Watch Lists for Postseason Awards.

UTA senior right-hander Andrew Gross has been named to the Midseason Watch List for the 15th Annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award. The NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award is given annually to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball.

Gross was one of 45 players named to the list. The midseason list includes five players who were on the preseason watch list released in February, including Stanford's Jake Little, who is the only returner among last year's five finalists for the award.

Redshirt senior Will Olson and junior Connor Aube were named to the 2019 Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award Watch List. The Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award is presented by SR Bats.

The BBCSA, created by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, was open to nominations from all Division I baseball programs in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma.  The award is based on performance at the plate, academics and personal integrity. The Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award has had two winners to date, Hunter Hargrove (Texas Tech, drafted by the Oakland A's) and Devlin Granberg (Dallas Baptist, drafted by the Boston Red Sox).

BARK IN THE PARK…ALL SEASON LONG
UT Arlington Department of Athletics officials announced that all 2019 home baseball games at Clay Gould Ballpark and softball games at Allan Saxe Field will be dog-friendly, thanks to a generous partnership with upstart Lone Star Friends of Animals to create 'Casey's Corner.'

Dogs which are leashed, at least six months old and with the proper vaccinations will be permitted at all UTA baseball and softball games throughout the season.

Casey's Corner is a grassy area between the baseball and softball fields, along the 3rd-base line of the baseball stadium. Multiple pet waste stations have been set up, and the space provides fans and dog owners an opportunity to walk and sit with their canine companions while taking in all the Maverick action.
