ARLINGTON, Texas - As the NCAA Women's College World Series wrapped up Tuesday night, the statistics for the 2019 softball season were finalized with a UT Arlington Maverick sitting atop one category.
Laura Curry became the first Maverick to lead the NCAA in any statistic, leading the country with 91 hits on the season, edging out Oklahoma's Sydney Romero.
Curry has already been honored with multiple awards this season, including being named Softball America All-American, NFCA All-Region, NISC Region MVP and Sun Belt All-Conference.
For the season, led the conference and was ranked in the nation in multiple categories. Her .440 batting average was the best in the conference, eleventh best in the NCAA and was the second-highest in a single-season for the Mavericks. She was the toughest strikeout in the Sun Belt and the ninth toughest in the country.
Her 91 hits on the season bested Romero's hit total by one and shattered the previous single-season record for UTA by 15 hits. She had three games this season where she tied the program-high of four hits in a single game and had just ten games (out of 63) where she went hitless.
