More Than 100 @UTAMavs Student-Athletes Honored By The Sun Belt Conference

NEW ORLEANS – UT Arlington Athletics had 114 student-athletes recognized on Thursday for their premier academic performance as Sun Belt Conference officials released their 2018-19 SBC Commissioner's List and Academic Honor Roll.
 
UTA – which is one of two schools in the league which does not sponsor football – had 48 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's List for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the 2018-19 fall and spring semesters. An additional 66 Mavericks garnered a spot on the Academic Honor Roll for posting a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49.
 
The baseball team had a department-best 11 honorees named to the Commissioner's List, while women's track and field/cross country and volleyball each had six. Impressively, five of women's golf's seven members also garnered a spot on the list.
 
Women's track and field/cross country led the Academic Honor Roll list with 14 performers, while men's track and field/cross country and baseball each had 11 representatives.
 
"We take great pride in our student-athletes succeeding in their competitions, making a positive impact in the community and achieving in the classroom, and that once again was the case this past year," said Director of Athletics Jim Baker. "Our coaches do a terrific job of focusing on the 'student' in student-athlete, and I would be remiss if I didn't thank all of our hard-working academic staff which plays an integral role in ensuring these continued successes."
 
Collectively, UTA's approximately 240 student-athletes posted a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (Spring 2019: 3.08) for the 11th-consecutive semester this past spring.
 
Included in that performance were exemplary showings from more than 80 student-athletes; 42 were recognized as UTA Super Scholar Athletes – having earned a 4.0 GPA in one semester or maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.6 for at least two-consecutive semesters – while 39 were named UTA Scholar Athletes with at least a 3.8 GPA in one semester or maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25 for at least two-consecutive semesters.
 
In total the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List and Academic Honor Roll had 1,037 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's List, while there were 1,027 named to the Academic Honor Roll for an impressive cumulative number of 2,064.
