@UTAMavsVB Set To Open Sun Belt Conference Play At Home

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UTA volleyball team (8-4) opens the Sun Belt conference portion of the 2019 slate when ULM and Louisiana visit College Park Center this weekend.

The Mavs host the Warhawks on Friday, Sept. 27 (6:30 p.m.), before taking on The Ragin' Cajuns on Saturday night (6:30 p.m.).

KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | ULM
- ULM is led by Mikaela Worley, who is averaging 3.47 kills per set, and Kate Blasingame, who is averaging 3.10 kills per set.
- McKinley Thiede is averaging 5.56 assists per set while Darby Fisher is averaging 4.47 assists per set. The pair have a combined 486 assists.
- Albany Schaffer leads the team with 3.73 digs per set while Blasingame leads the team with 18 service aces. The 1.7 aces per set is good enough for 38th in the NCAA. Ina Gosen and Hailey Hughes are tied with 28 blocks apiece.

KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | LOUISIANA
- Louisiana brings a four-match win streak over UT Arlington into Saturday's contest. The Ragin' Cajuns have swept the season series each of the past two seasons.
- Louisiana ranks Top 10 nationally in attacks per set (No. 8) and Top 15 nationally in digs per set (No. 11).
- Highlighting the list of returners for the Ragin' Cajuns is junior outside hitter Hali Wisnoskie, a two-time All-Sun Belt selection and preseason all-conference choice for 2019, who owns a pair of 300-plus kills seasons and senior middle blocker Dree'Ana Abram who has dominated at the net with back-to-back seasons of 90-plus blocks.
- The Ragin' Cajuns welcome a pair of newcomers from the junior college ranks in standout libero Hannah Ramirez from Panola College along with Lafayette native Elise Baranco who returns home after one season at Pratt (Kan.) Community College.
 
UTA NOTES
- UTA is outhitting the opposition .203-.168.
- Brooke Townsend and Kylie Jedlicka lead the team with 164 and 127 kills, respectively.
- The Mavs went 2-1 at the Maverick Invite last weekend at CPC, picking up wins over Chicago State and Prairie View A&M and falling to SFA.
- Brooke Townsend and Bre Walp were named to the 2019 Mavericks Invite All-Tournament Team. Townsend racked up 36 kills (3.6 kills per set), 17 digs and 7 blocks, while Walp chipped in with 24 kills (2.4 kills per set) and 10 blocks.
- Brooke Townsend has been named to the All-Tournament Team for all four tournaments that the Mavs have played in this season.
- UTA sophomore setter Chase Davis suffered a knee injury in warmups a couple weeks ago and will miss the remainder of the season.

BEST START SINCE 2015
- UTA's 8-4 start is the best start to a season since 2015. The 8-4 start is also the best start for UTA since head coach J.T. Wenger took over.

SBC PLAY FOR UTA
- UTA has posted a 60-42 record in SBC play since joining the league in 2013.
- The Mavs have won 10+ SBC matches in four of their six season in the league.

NEW FACES
The Mavs will have eight newcomers (7 freshmen, 1 transfer) on the roster for the 2019 campaign.

UTA's 2019 class, which was given High Honorable Mention honors by PrepVolleyball.com, features Division II transfer sophomore Chase Davis (Azusa Pacific / Homeschool / Keller, Texas) and freshmen Danielle Dion (Plano East / Richardson, Texas), Meredith Fisher (Wichita Falls, Texas / Rider HS), Devon Martinka (Stanwood, Wash. / Stanwood HS), Jessica Stancliff (Carrollton, Texas / Hebron HS); Alli Wells (Waxahachie, Texas / Waxahachie HS), Megan Walsh (Grand Rapids, Minn. / Grand Rapids Senior HS); Gabby White (Lewisville, Texas / Flower Mound HS).

SINGLE-MATCH TICKETS ON SALE
UTA Volleyball single-match tickets are now on sale for the 2019 season. Single-match tickets are general admission and are $6 for fans over the age of three, while children two and under get in free.

Military, UTA faculty and staff and UTA students receive free admission to all home, regular season matches.

SEASON TICKETS ON SALE
Season tickets for the upcoming 2019 UTA volleyball season are officially on sale with general admission seating available for $25. The $25 cost (less than $2 per game) is a 50% drop in price from last season.
