COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UT Arlington men's cross country team returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 17, at Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational.
The 8k race at Watts Cross Country Course is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. Live results, including split data and team scoring once the race is underway, will be available at
flashresults.com.
Along with host A&M, the Mavericks will be competing against the following field comprised of all SEC or Big 12 members: Baylor, LSU, TCU, #11 Texas and Texas Tech.
"We've had a good month of training and we're excited to get back to competitive racing," said head coach
John Sauerhage. "We're looking to perform well and have this race jump-start us for the conference meet in a couple of weeks."
Like most meets this fall due to COVID-19, the field has been truncated significantly from previous years. At the 2019 Arturo Barrios Invite, UTA placed 12th in the extremely-competitive 26-team field.
Of returning runners for the Mavericks,
Cole Klashinsky led the way with a 16th-place finish (24:08.1), while then-freshmen
Marquentin Barnes and
Jack Myers also recorded points.
This will be the second, and final, meet of the abbreviated 2020 season for UTA. Three weeks ago at their home event the Mavs finished 3rd.
Myers led the team with a career-best 3rd-place finish, posting a 20:29.3 time on the 4-mile course to earn his first-ever Sun Belt Conference Runner of the Week honor.
Following action at A&M, UTA will conclude its season at the Sun Belt Championship on Saturday, Oct. 31. All Division-I fall championships – which includes cross country – have been postponed due to COVID-19 and consequently an insufficient amount of schools participating (fewer than 50 percent) to conduct a championship.
