BEAUMONT, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team concluded their weekend road trip by defeating the Lamar Cardinals 4-1 in Beaumont on Sunday afternoon to improve to 5-2 on the year.

The Mavericks dropped a close doubles point to start the match. Miguel Cabrera and Daichi Akiyoshi fell on Court Six 6-1 to begin doubles play. In the No. 1 doubles position Alan Sau Franco and Eduard Simo fought in a hard-played battle 6-4. Solano Caffarena and Angel Diaz were leading 6-5 when doubles play concluded.

UTA wasted no time getting their four singles points to win the overall match. Eduard Simo cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 6 position before Sau Franco jumped in on the winning with a 6-2, 6-3 win on Court Three. Solano Caffarena took down his opponent in the No. 5 position 6-4, 6-4 while Cabrera secured the match with a three-set victory 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 on Court Two.

The Mavericks won't play again until Feb. 21 when they travel to Wichita, Kan. to take on the Shockers of Wichita State for an 11:00 a.m. matchup.
