@UTAMavsBSB Land Two on D1Baseball Top Senior Hitters List

ARLINGTON, Texas – Two Mavericks were named to the 2020 Top Senior Hitters list by D1Baseball.com on Monday evening.  Zac Cook and Andrew Keefer came in ranked No. 8 and No. 43 respectively on the list.

To determine the list D1Baseball broke down hitting into three categories: Plate Discipline, Hit Ability, and Game Power and combined them to calculate an Analytics Score. Plate Discipline is a measure of how well a batter controls the strike zone. Hit Ability simply measures a batter's ability to flat-out hit and reach base while Game Power is straightforward: did the player produce extra base hits, getting to the power he may show in batting practice.

The rankings are based on the four weeks of statistics from the 2020 season. They are computed with an adjustment to account for park effects of the most extreme hitter and pitcher friendly parks, as well as an adjustment for a team's strength of schedule.

Cook came in ranked 8th on the list with an overall score of 88.5.  Through four weeks of the season he led the team in RBI (12), on-base percentage (.500), walks (13) and slugging percentage (.623).  He also finished second in runs scored (12) and third in batting average (.321).  Cook reached base in 15 of the 16 games played, including the final 10 games of the season.  He was also the highest rated Sun Belt player, which included Andrew Beasley (ULM – 18) and teammate Andrew Keefer (43).

After transferring to UTA from TCU, Keefer became a worthy bat for the Mavericks, leading the team in triples and finishing second on the team in batting average (.333), slugging percentage (.528) and on-base percentage (.432). The Allen, Texas native also knocked in six runs and scored another three. He had the third longest hitting streak on the team (8 games) and ended the season on an eight-game reached base streak. In the 12 games he made an appearance, Keefer reached base in eleven.
