Matthew Alberghini Named Softball Assistant Coach

ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington head softball coach Peejay Brun has announced that Matthew Alberghini will join the Maverick coaching staff as an assistant coach.

"I am extremely honored to now serve the UTA softball program as an assistant coach," Alberghini said. "I want to thank head coach Peejay Brun, athletic director Jim Baker and everyone else at the University of Texas at Arlington for the opportunity."

Alberghini replaces former assistant coach Bobby Buchannan who was with the team for two seasons and will be coaching the outfielders and catchers, as well as helping Coach Brun with offensive strategies.

"Matt has gotten some good experience from coaches I respect," Brun said. "I've heard great things about him, and it only took one conversation to realize that he is an upcoming coach that will make great strides in our sport."

Alberghini comes to UTA after spending one season (2019-20) at Boston College, learning under head coach Amy Kvilhaug as a volunteer assistant coach. While with BC, he helped with strategy by generating sets of sign cards for all facets of the game, as well as creating hitter books and team handbooks.

Prior to Boston College, Alberghini was a graduate assistant at the University of Washington (2018-19). In two years in Seattle, the Huskies went a combined 104-19 including two trips to the Women's College World Series. Under the direction of head coach Heather Tarr, Alberghini oversaw video, practice and gameday operations for the Huskies.

"He's got an even keel personality and his passion for the game is undeniable," said Brun. "He will be a great balance to our staff and tremendous help on all the technology we've been able to bring to UTA.

Alberghini has four additional years of experience working at the University of Pittsburgh as a volunteer assistant coach (2018-19) and Sun Belt foe, Coastal Carolina, as the head student manager (2014-17).

He graduated with a B.S. in Recreation and Sport Management from Coastal Carolina in 2017 before obtaining his master's in education in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington in 2019.
