UTA NOTES
- It's been six years since the Mavericks went to Georgia and came away with wins over both Georgia schools. UTA defeated Georgia State 3-2 on Oct. 23, 2015 before sweeping the Eagles the next night in Statesboro.
- Brooke Townsend became the 19th Maverick to reach 1,000 career kills last weekend against Coastal Carolina. She became the first Maverick since Zhanelle Geathers joined the club in 2018.
- Not missing a beat from last year, Alli Wells picked right where she left off. The sophomore ranks 16th in the nation with 5.25 digs per set and 33rd in total digs (352).
- Alli Wells hasn't just been a force on defense this year, the CoVID sophomore became the 22nd Maverick to reach 1,000 career digs last weekend, reaching the mark against App State (Oct. 22). She becomes the 2nd Maverick in the JT Wenger era to enter the club, joining her predecessor Madelyn St. Germain (2019).
- Monica LaFleur is putting together one of the more impressive freshman seasons in Maverick history. Through 17 matches, she is hitting .272 - good for the 7th best hitting percentage by a freshman in program history.
- Graduate Transfer Kainah Williams leads the Mavericks with 58 blocks on the season (0.91 b/s). She has 15 matches with multi-block performances, including a season-high 8 blocks at Abilene Christian on August 27.
- UTA has been limiting their errors when attacking. They have the fourth fewest attacking errors in the Sun Belt.
NEW FACES
- The Mavericks have 11 freshmen on their team - only three of which are first year players due to COVID-19 eligibility - defensive specialist Kaylen Beaty (Fort Worth, Texas; Boswell HS), outside hitter Lauren Staruch (Lake Orion, Mich.; Lake Orion HS), and middle blocker Monica LaFleur (Hartland, Wisc.; Arrowhead HS).
- Wenger brought in three transfers in the offseason – junior outside hitter Nya Blair (Grand Prairie, Texas; San Diego State), sophomore defensive specialist Emily Larson (Nashotah, Wisc.; UW-Green Bay), and graduate senior middle blocker Kainah Williams (Spring Branch, Texas; Liberty).
SERIES HISTORY - GEORGIA STATE
- This is the 12th meeting between Georgia State and UTA with the first coming in 2007. UTA owns a 7-4 record against the Panthers and a 3-2 record in Atlanta.
SERIES HISTORY - GEORGIA SOUTHERN
- This is the 9th meeting between Georgia Southern and UTA. The Mavs are 8-0 against the Eagles dating back to 2009 - including 3-0 in Statesboro.
UP NEXT
- The Mavericks will return to the College Park Center for the final home matches of the season as they host Arkansas State (Nov. 5) and Little Rock (Nov. 6).
