LOUISIANA – Winner of six of the last eight matches, the UT Arlington volleyball team will wrap up its regular season schedule this weekend when they travel to Louisiana to take on the Ragin' Cajuns and ULM.
UTA NOTES
- Freshman Briana Brown enjoys playing against Little Rock. Last weekend, she broke her career-high in kills, putting away 28 balls as the Mavericks beat the Trojans in five sets. She topped her previous career-high by two kills, which came against Little Rock last season.
- Brooke Townsend became the 19th Maverick to reach 1,000 career kills against Coastal Carolina. She became the first Maverick since Zhanelle Geathers joined the club in 2018.
- Not missing a beat from last year, Alli Wells picked right where she left off. The sophomore ranks 21st in the nation with 5.10 digs per set and 27th in total digs (454).
- Alli Wells hasn't just been a force on defense this year, the CoVID sophomore became the 22nd Maverick to reach 1,000 career digs against App State (Oct. 22). She becomes the 2nd Maverick in the JT Wenger era to enter the club, joining her predecessor Madelyn St. Germain (2019).
- The Mavericks are among the nation's top diggers, ranking 23rd in the NCAA in digs per set. Their 16.88 digs per set is second to Arkansas State in the Sun Belt (18.21 d/s).
- Freshman Briana Brown is 4th on the team in total block with 33.0, but has double the amount of solo blocks as the next closest Mavericks. 12 of her 33 blocks have been solo. Monica LaFleur has the next highest solo blocks with 6. LaFleur has 60 total blocks on the season.
- Two Mavericks have over 200 kills on the season - Brooke Townsend and Briana Brown. Townsend leads UTA with 227, while Brown has 201. Brianna Ford is closing in on 200, entering the weekend with 179.
BATTLE FOR THE NO. 2 SEED
UTA will either be the 2nd Seed or the 3rd Seed in the West, depending on how the weekend shapes out.
- Currently – 3rd Seed of the West
- Would play 6th seed of the East (App State or Georgia State – Currently App State)
- If UTA wins out AND Louisiana loses out – Possible 2nd Seed of the West
- Will need to beat Louisiana in 4 sets or less OR win in 5 sets AND outscore Louisiana by 6 total points
- First tiebreaker is sets won in head-to-head
- Second tiebreaker is points scored in head-to-head (Louisiana currently leads 106-101)
- Third tiebreaker sets won in conference play (Louisiana is 33-22 sets won/lost, UTA is 25-25 sets won/lost – Cajuns own this tiebreaker)
- If 2nd Seed
- First round bye
- Would player the winner of 3rd Seed East/6th Seed West
- If UTA wins out BUT Louisiana goes 1-1 - 3rd seed of the West
- Will play 6th seed of East (Either App State or Georgia State – Currently App State)
- If UTA loses out - 3rd seed of the West
- Will play 6th seed of East (Either App State or Georgia State – Currently App State)
- If UTA goes 1-1 - 3rd seed of the West
- Will play 6th seed of East (Either App State or Georgia State – Currently App State)
NEW FACES
