ATLANTA – The UT Arlington Department of Athletics won a pair of academic-based awards this week as part of the Sun Belt Honors Banquet during the conference's Fall meetings.
Â
Embodying the true definition of student-athletes, the Mavericks claimed the Institutional Graduation Rate Award and also the more heralded Student-Athlete Graduation Achievement Award, which UTA won for the first time.
Â
Possessing an 85 percent student-athlete graduation rate, UTA had the highest four-year class average graduation rate of any current Sun Belt school, as published in the NCAA Division-I Graduation-Rate Annual Report.
Â
Additionally, that four-year graduation rate exceeds the general student body graduation rate of the university.
Â
"This is a tremendous accomplishment by our student-athletes both past and present who helped us reach this mark, and they should be extremely proud," stated UTA Director of Athletics
Jim Baker. "It's also a testament to our academic support staff who have done a wonderful job helping our student-athletes succeed in the classroom and prepare them for life after leaving UTA."
Â
During the 2020-21 year, the Mavs had 142 student-athletes named to either the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List (3.5+ GPA) or the Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll (3.0-3.49 GPA).
