Brun Announces 2022 Softball Schedule

ARLINGTON – UT Arlington head softball coach Peejay Brun has announced the 2022 softball schedule as it is highlighted by several power five opponents along with 23 home games and one home tournament.

"I'm excited about our schedule this year," said Brun. "We're once again playing power five opponents like Texas, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Baylor, Iowa State and Nebraska as well as the top mid-majors in our region. It will be a true test of where we are as a program and this team is up for it."

The Mavericks will open the season in College Station to play in the three-day Aggie Classic (Feb.10-12) before facing UTEP in El Paso for the Mavs' first midweek matchup (Feb. 16).

UTA will head to Las Cruces, New Mexico for the Troy Cox Invitational (Feb. 17-19) where the Mavericks are set to face South Eastern Louisiana, Nebraska, Northern Colorado, Iowa State and host New Mexico State.

The Mavs will welcome Baylor to Allan Saxe Field for their home opener (Feb. 23) before they make their way to Lake Charles, Louisiana for McNeese State's three-day Cowgirl Classic beginning Feb. 25.

To kick off March action, UTA will head to Denton to face the Mean Green for a midweek contest (Mar. 2). The following weekend, UTA will host UTSA, Northwestern State and Fordham as part of the 3rd Boerner Invitational (Mar. 4-6). The Boerner Invitational – named in honor of Melissa Boerner, a former UTA softball captain who was killed by a drunk driver the day before her senior year began in 1998 – is to help raise awareness to the importance of responsible drinking.

Following a Tuesday evening home game against Stephen F. Austin (Mar. 8), UTA will begin Sun Belt Conference competition with a home series against South Alabama on Mar. 11.

The Mavericks will travel to San Antonio to face Incarnate Word (Mar. 15) for midweek play then welcome No. 6 Oklahoma State to Arlington on Mar. 16. UTA will resume conference action with back-to-back weekends beginning with Coastal Carolina (Mar. 18-20) at home then travel to Lafayette to face No. 22 Louisiana (Mar. 25-27).

To round out March, UTA will have four-straight homestands as Sam Houston (Mar. 30) and ULM (Apr. 1-3) will pay a visit to Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks will hit the road again to face the third ranked team on the schedule, No. 12 Texas in Austin (Apr. 6) followed by a three-game conference series against Georgia State in Atlanta (Apr. 8-10).

Before the Mavs hosts Baylor for the second time (Apr. 19), UTA will take on Georgia Southern on its home turf (Apr. 14-16). With midweek action at a close, the Mavericks will be on the road for two-straight weekends to face Troy (Apr. 22-24) followed by App State (Apr. 30- May 1). UTA will close out the regular season at home for a three-game series against Texas State starting on May 5 and ending May 7.

The Sun Belt Tournament will take place in Mobile, Ala., from May 11-14 and will be hosted by the Jaguars. NCAA postseason competition kicks off May 20 with the first round of NCAA Regionals.
