ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington women's basketball team snapped their two-game losing skid with a 51-43 win over in-state rival Texas State on Saturday afternoon at College Park Center.
Bre Wickware knocked down all six of her free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory for the Lady Mavs.
With the win, UTA moves to 11-6 overall and 9-4 in Sun Belt play, while the Bobcats fall to 8-10 on the season and 5-8 in league action.
Bre Wickware led all scorers with 12 points. The Denton native also added eight rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block in the win.
Katie Ferrell added 10 points, five assists and a pair of steals, while
Barbara Benson finished with nine points and four boards.
Shyia Smith chipped in with seven points and eight rebounds.
Kennedy Taylor finished with 10 points to lead Texas State.
UTA's defense forced the visitors into 12 turnovers and limited the Bobcats to just 28.6 percent (16-of-56) shooting from the floor and 15.0 percent (3-of-20) from behind the arc. The Lady Mavs also held TXST leading scorer Da'Nasia Hood to just six points (3-of-12 shooting), which is 11 points shy of her season average.
The Lady Mavs return to the court next weekend when they host Louisiana (Feb. 19-20) in an important 2-game series and also their final regular season home games. Tip-off for Friday's game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and Saturday's matchup will start at 4:00 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
