NEW ORLEANS – After shattering the program's javelin throw with a 73.11m delivery this past Saturday at the TCU Invitational, UT Arlington's Arthur Petersen has been named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Petersen – who had his true freshman season cut short last year after one meet due to COVID-19 – destroyed the 23-year-old outdoor program mark of 70.59m set by Wayne Cunnings in 1988 on his way to easily claiming a season-opening victory by nearly six meters from the runner-up.
 
Additionally, the Denmark native's 73.11m throw is currently the 2nd-best in the nation this outdoor season behind only a 75.05m distance.
 
Petersen continues an impressive stretch of weekly award winners for the men's program across the track and field and cross country seasons during 2020-21. He is now the fifth Mav to garner a weekly conference recognition, and UTA has only competed in six total cross country and track and field regular-season meets this year.

The award announcement comes just a mere hours before Petersen competes in the javelin throw at the 93rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. He is scheduled in Section A of the event, which is slated to get underway at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the field events for the day.
